Would you like Basil Fawlty to Run Your Hotel?

The other day I was chatting to a friend of mine and we were reminiscing about the great old days. We got chatting about some of the fantastic old comedy shows that we used to tune into back in the 1970′s

She was saying that one of her favourites used to be Fawlty Towers with the brilliant John Cleese.

I couldn’t disagree with her as this show was British comedy at its very best and certainly caused a huge deal of laughter, something that sadly doesn’t seem to happen so much nowadays.

We got on to talking about the stars of the show and actually had a bit of a row about John Cleese and his real life wife. My friend was absolutely convinced that John Cleese had been married to Prunella Scales, who played his other half in the show, but I knew he was actually married to Connie Booth who played the character of Polly.

It’s weird that such a stupid chat can get so out of hand, but you know what it can be like when 2 women both think they are right, neither of them like to admit that they might be wrong.

Naturally in the end we decided the best way to find out which one of was right was to Google the answer. Well of course, it turned out that I was right, which didn’t go down very well with my friend.

She said that perhaps I should think about booking a self catering Torquay holiday. I said that I would rather visit some of the hotels in Devon in the hope that one of them might actually have a real life Hotel owner like Basil Fawlty.

Of course nowadays in Torquay there are plenty of activities to keep you occupied. One of my friends who organises bowling holidays for her Club was pretty impressed with Torquay during a recent visit. She loved the place so much that she has already booked up for 2 tournaments for her bowling team for next year.

I wonder if she is hoping to get a hotel owner like Basil Fawlty, at least there would never be a dull moment!!
