My Days As An Apprentice Greenkeeper

I have already had many jobs in my life and I have to say that this one ( a temporary greenkeeper) was a very interesting one indeed, there was plenty to do all of the time. I have to say that when I turned up for work I was pretty shocked when I was told about the amount of work it takes for a golf course to look great.

The hardest part for working at this course for me was getting up at 4 in the morning and starting work at 5, after this it was okay. The great thing about doing this is that you finish at around 12.30 so you have most of the day spare to do pretty much what you want.

The main role that I had to take part in was the raking of the bunkers and although this sounds like a boring task it wasn’t really that bad when you think about it. The raking of over 150 bunkers is a pretty big task and it takes all morning for two people to do it, you do get to meet a few people. The great thing about working there is that you really do get to know the course and respect the place.

The people you meet are of course golfers and they usually compliment the course which is great for self esteem when you are working on it all of the time. Once the morning was done we would all head back into the room and have lunch on the house. The choices were pretty much endless when it comes to the things I could have, more often than not it was a full English for me.

Golf course working is actually quite a laugh and is very rewarding too.

So charge up those golf trolley batteries and those UPS batteries and start playing golf. Mobility scooter batteries can be used for this purpose too.
