Situated just north of Crawley in West Sussex and less than 29miles south of London, Gatwick Airport is in a convenient location. Gatwick and Heathrow are London’s two international airports and handle the highest number of passenger traffic in the United Kingdom. The busiest single-use runway in the world is located at Gatwick.

Gatwick Airport’s History

The name “Gatwick” dates back to 1241, derived from the name of a manor that was situated where the airport stands today. The De Gatwick family owned the land that the airport is now situated on. The airports name comes from the meaning “goat farm” in Anglo Saxon. Ownership of the land changed 1890. The Gatwick Race Course Company bought the land. The new owners opened a racecourse was beside a London-Brighton railway just a year after purchase, along with a station that included sidings for horse boxes.

The airlines choice airport

As a base for offices etc. in London and the South East, charter airlines mainly opt for Gatwick over Heathrow.

The following charter airlines and operators use the airport as a base:

Aer Lingus

British Airways (BA)

EasyJet

Flybe

Virgin Atlantic

Monarch Airlines

Thomas Cook Airlines

Thomson Airways

The difference between Gatwick and other airports in London is that it has a significant airline presence.

Global Infrastructure Partners (owners of London City Airport) became the new proprietors of Gatwick in 2009. Prior to this, the airport was owned by BAA, however, due to the Competition Commission finding their market share to be too large, they were forced to sell.

Working at the airport

Gatwick jobs are sought after within the aviation industry. There has been a lot of recent interest in airport jobs following their exposure on TV programmes that focus on the roles of those working in airports. Logistics manager, baggage handler and security officer are just a few examples of airport jobs. For an job at the airport, it is usually required that you have customer service experience.

The progressive Middle East has a face: the glittering skyline of Dubai. Whereas Oil was once kind of the Dubai desert, the economy has shifted to a western inspired model. Geared towards business, free trade and tourism, the new Dubai is world famous for its stunning sky scrapers. Tourists are attracted by a combination of this rich modern architecture, historical cultural buildings and a plethora of shopping malls stocking luxury items at competitive prices. With these elements in combination, Dubai holidays were the 8th most popular destination in 2007. Dubai’s current tourist goal is a population of 15 million tourists per day. Ever increasing demand is being met by local business and hotels, but the government is putting its own money into developing the international airport.

Dubai International’s new Maktoum Terminal recently slipped from its March 2011 opening date, but only by ‘a matter of months’ according to one top official. In the decades to come, the government hopes to invest in the expansion of Dubai airport so that it can one day grow to accommodate 160 million passengers, making the hub a sort of aviation Suez canal. Aviation and Tourism are massive elements of Dubai’s economy, and the proposed expansion of the airport isn’t just about bringing tourists into the city. It is also an important gateway to the Middle East and much of South Asia. European flights ultimately heading to Maldives holidays pass through Dubai, a lucrative opportunity that the city is increasingly interested in exploiting. Those simply passing through the airport will find extensive duty free shops aimed at their custom, whilst packages are being forged with specific stop-over periods. Dubai shows no hostility to foreigners, but it is worth familiarising yourself with some local standards as people have been caught out by them in the past (such as the widely publicised prohibition of public kissing).

Dubai has been gradually evolving beyond its status as a glorified shopping centre too. You need only go halfway to the Maldives if recent (now remedied) scandals have put you off Weddings abroad. The sand of the desert and the sand of the beaches may merge into one in the collective consciousness, but Dubai has some brilliant beaches and perpetual sun, whether you’re honeymooning or simply looking for a fantastic holiday destination.

Sydney is one of Australia’s most popular cities for business and travel. It’s a place remembered by many for its beautiful Harbor Bridge and the Opera House.

The Sydney Airport features modern facilities and amenities plus theres a range of transfer services to get you from the airport to your hotel, home or office. The choices for transfers include taxis, shuttle services, buses and trains.

Many services are available on demand but just like flights and accommodation, it can be beneficial to book in advance. Booking your airport transfers in advance avoids delays from waiting in long lines, waiting for on-demand shuttles and finding where to buy tickets. Pre-booking can remove that stress and turn the start of your trip into the start of the fun.

For pre-booked airport transfers to and from Sydney Airport, there is several options which include:

Shuttle buses – May be a large coach or small mini-bus and depending on the company some take you straight to your destination and others use central drop off points. Depending on where you need to get off it may be long ride as they drop off at all the stops.

Limousine services – These companies offer chauffeured personal cars, meaning that it’s a car and driver just for you. The benefits are easy to see, first is that it’s quite luxurious and comfortable, secondly, it’s a more direct and faster option as there are not multiple drop offs on the way, thirdly, the driver is dedicated to your needs and comfort.

The benefits of using a pre booked limo service continue with the driver greeting you at the airport, helping you with your luggage and getting you safelys and comfortably to where you need to be.

In Australia the cost of using airport limousines can be quite competitive when compared to other services. For more visit Airport Transfers Sydney page at LimoFinder.

Tips for Booking a Sydney Airport Transfer:
Let the operator know exactly how many people and how much luggage you will have so the company can allocate the right vehicle. Most companies can handle large groups even with big amounts of luggage as long as they know in advance.

By law in Australia, children of a certain age can only travel in a car with suitable capsules or restraints, let the operator know the age of your children so they can ensure the correct seating requirements.

Also ensure the operator has your flight number so they can keep track of flight delays. Also make sure they have your correct name spelling for the signboard at the airport.

If your business trip or vacation requires that you leave your personal car at the airport for any length of time you should read up about what to expect. It is not only airport security that has increased drastically since terrorist attacks began happening all over the world, now even airport parking is more secure.

Before heading out to your chosen airport it is important that you call ahead to check out the situation with their parking. You will need to find out what they require to use their long-term parking, whether they have off-site parking or whether there is a shuttle bus service dedicated to them. At the airport parking in the wrong place can have many consequences which include fines, having you car towed and longer searches when boarding your flight.

Drop off, long-term and offsite are the main three types of parking that most airports use. Drop off parking is meant for minutes instead of hours and is just for the purpose of dropping someone off to catch a flight. This area is monitored constantly by security personnel who are specifically looking for empty and abandoned vehicles.

Long-term parking is for passengers who are actually flying somewhere. Long-term parking is usually on airport property, but far from the terminal. Long-term parking is usually accompanied by a shuttle bus service to get you to the terminal. It is normal for airports to charge of the use of their long-term parking services, although some airports charge per day. To avoid any unwanted surprises when you return it is a good idea to find out what these fees are before you commit.

Off-site parking is the last option available to you. This option is usually in the same area as the airport, and will have access to a shuttle bus service to transport you to the terminal. As with long-term parking, there will most likely be a fee for using these services, but the charges will be considerably lower than those at the airport. Although it is a good idea to keep the fact that off-site parking is not normally patrolled by airport security.

Many hotels offer a shuttle service to and from their local airport, which can be a great help when traveling from city to city. This service is usually free to hotel guests. Because of this little perk many travelers book with these hotels because it saves them the worry about how they and going to get to and from their hotel.

This is important information to keep in mind whenever you are going on a vacation or a business trip. It is one less thing on your mind if you have sorted out your parking arrangements before hand.

Australian airports are well serviced by transfer services but one service offers incredible value and is sometimes overlooked, I’m talking about airport limousines.. But a service that may not be known to many are limousine companies, who also offer airport transfer services.

Not only available for weddings, limos are now a popular choice for many people going to and from the airport. The prices are usually quite competitive with other modes of transport but the benefits are very welcomed.

Whether you are on holidays, or flying in on business, the modern limo service has options for you including luxury sedans, stretch limos and many companies have buses available to cater for larger groups.

Airport limousine services offer safety, convenience, comfort and more. The extra service offered can make all the difference, getting your trip or holiday off to a great start, or getting you from the airport safely on your way home.

Most companies also offer a wide range of vehicle options including luxury sedans which can carry four passengers and these cars are normally cars such as BMW, Mercedes or the local equivalents like the Ford LTD or Holden Statesman. One of the most popular vehicle options is the stretch limo, of which there are numerous variants, with the main benefitbeing the luxury, style and the space.

Stretch limos can usually carry 6 passengers in comfort but there are many that can carry 9, 12 or even more passengers. Many of these limos will feature DVD, LCD screens, superb sound systems and more. For more about limos in Australia try the LimoFinder site, where there is also a list of companies servicing Australian airports at their Limousine Airport Transfers page.

When arriving at the airport the driver will hold up a sign board with your name making it easy to find each other. The driver will also help with all that luggage while escorting you out to your chosen vehicle. The best part of experience for many people is the fact theres no other drop offs or stops, this vehicle goes express where you direct it.

In conclusion, while there are many options for transfer services at the airport, there is only one which offers the top level of safety, service and comfort that comes from personalized service, attention to detail and late model luxury or special purpose vehicles.

For your next aiport transfer consider hiring an airport limousine. The popular Australian web site, LimoFinder.com.au, has list of operators for each state and airport in Australia and you can easily get quotes from multiple operators online.

As terrorist attacks steadily increase in terms of public profile, it is becoming more and more difficult to travel between countries without being hampered by stiff rules and regulations. The passport has become even more of a requirement for long-distance travel than ever before. Inconveniently, while the costs associated with passports rises over time, other problems also attach themselves to passports. The most grievous of these issues is the multitude of problems connected with obtaining one. You should know, however, that there are some steps that can be taken to get around many of the more serious issues.

You must first start by creating a checklist composed of all required components of a passport application. It is important, as any lack of application material will result in return trips and bureaucratic issues. Write each of these items on your list: picture ID, a properly formatted photograph of yourself, birth certificate, and the processing fee. Though it might seem simple, you will need to pay special attention to certain aspects of this list. So let’s examine a few of these items.

For example, do not simply assume that photo ID means any form of photo identification. A prime example of an exception is student ID cards. Instead, when they say photo ID, they mean a state-issued ID or driver’s license. Virtually anything else is deemed unacceptable due to the rigid specifications of new laws. In fact, even the alternative ID forms specifically listed on the passport forms and even the official website are not actually accepted when you apply. The combination of two verifiable ID that are not a drivers license or state ID, even though stated is acceptable on the forms, will not be allowed. The use of an identifying witness is also considered to be unacceptable in the eyes of the officials. So as silly as it might sound, you simply cannot use these as the required ID for a passport application. State IDs are generally the easiest to obtain on short notice. A Social Security card, birth certificate, registration fee, and a piece of address mail from the government are the requirements for a state ID, as well as a little more than a week’s worth of time. Most DMV offices are equipped with photography equipment, so you won’t need to supply your own picture.

Your original birth certificate must be produced; photocopies will not be accepted. Unfortunately this means that if you are not in possession of your original birth certificate, you will need to apply to get another. In most cases, it you will need to produce the processing fee in the form of either cash or check. Is a good idea to double check the amount required so as to avoid any mistakes and mishaps. You need to know that the official rules for passport photos are very strict. Remember that the rules and specifications involved with a passport photo are very specific, so be sure to read these rules carefully if making your own picture. The best way to avoid any confusion and mistakes is to simply use a professional. Despite the increased cost, you will end up being grateful for all the time you will end up saving yourself.

Anglia News The Duke Of York Work & Stansted Airport Second runway Molehill Green

The British Airports Authority (BAA) has now withdrawn their application for a second runway at Stansted airport after a lengthy eight year battle with anti-expansion campaigners.

The new coalition British government have clearly indicated that they will not back the proposed airport expansion plans and they will withdraw the provision for assisted relocation within the homeowner support scheme. This latest development comes shortly after plans to expand Heathrow airport were scrapped.

Stansted Airport’s managing director, David Johnston, has said that he and his staff will be working hard to attract new business and trade to the airport. They are committed to working closely with the local community to provide employment opportunities as well as potential for increased business and travel. He firmly believes that the South East Area of England needs a greater airport capacity in order to support the development of UK international trading links.

The campaign group Stop Stansted Expansion (SSE) have said that the fight is far from over. Their focus is now clearly on the future and the soon to be published (2011) Government white paper on aviation. While they are pleased with this latest victory their sights are clearly set on ensuring that there will never be an additional runway at Stansted airport.

SSE wants to be certain that the local community is fully aware of the importance of the forthcoming National Policy Statement. The ongoing campaign is intended to raise awareness in the local community, encouraging as many people as possible to respond to the 2011 public consultation. As part of the build up to this the ‘Never again’ theme will feature prominently in a new poster campaign.

SSE plan to enlist the support of relevant local authorities in the vicinity of Stansted Airport . They will also be seeking support from local members of parliament (MPs).

This is the fourth time that a proposed second runway at Stansted has been blocked in fifty years. Campaigners now feel that they have earned the right to a further fifty years of peace.

For cheap Stansted Airport parking always book in advance. The same applies elsewhere: book your Manchester airport parking and your Manchester airport hotels in advance for some truly exceptional savings.

Birmingham Airport Car Park

Many people use short stay airport parking for many different purposes, one purpose is when they go to receive someone at the airport. Birmingham airport parking has one of the most expensive short stay parking in the UK. Recent research shows that the newly opened short stay parking in Birmingham is expensive than Manchester and Heathrow even though Heathrow is one of the busiest airport. So why is Birmingham short stay parking expensive?? I bet it wants to be one of the most expensive short stay parking of the World?

Cost comparison between Heathrow, Manchester and Birmingham airport parking.

To park in a short stay Heathrow airport parking will cost you £8 for 30 mins.

To park in a short stay Manchester airport parking will cost you £8 for 30 mins.

To park in a short stay Birmingham airport it will cost you 20 pounds for 40 minutes. First half an hour costs £10 and thereafter the car park charges £5 for every 5 minutes. This is a total rip off. Just imagine the situation of you receiving someone from Birmingham airport and their plane is delayed by 60 minutes. When you calculate that it will come upto 70 pounds in total WOW!. I rather spend that 70 pounds in something productive – like a buy a cheap return ticket to Venice for a romantic weekend. No wonder this car park is always empty these days as shown in the video in the post – noone wants to pay that much.

The airport parking facility should be cheaper than this and also friendly for their customers(money wise). People use the short stay parking to either drop or receive their friends and family. Just imagine a person receiving his/her parents in this airport whom he/she hasn’t seen for years. These moment of happiness can be taken off his/her face which was there after meeting the parents when they go to pay for the car park when they will have to pay £30 for half an hour of parking.

Things to see in Barcelona:

Barcelona is well known for its Gaudi architectures as I have mentioned above. It also possess great night life. It has various discos, clubs, bars and restaurants you can enjoy near the beach and city centre. After a long day of touring in the hot sun, you can eat, drink and dance the evening away and the next day you can relax and sleep on the warm white sand of the beach. Does a holiday get any better than that?? Yes it does, you will be able to enjoy water sports such as scuba diving, water skiing, kayaking and more.

If you like a blend of different activities on your holidays, then Barcelona also offers many culturally enriching outings. The gothic quarter (Barri Gotic) named because of the Roman remnants of its past. It is the blend of the new buildings on the 90′s and the old architectures that bring people from all over the world to see Gothic Quarter.

Getting There from the UK:

You will be able to find cheap flights to Barcelona from low cost airlines. These airlines have flights from different airports around the UK to Barcelone. If these airports are a bit far away from the place you live in then you can always drive to these airports and park your car in Heathrow airport parking or if you are travelling to Manchester then Manchester airport parking or if Birmingham then Birmingham airport parking spots.
