One of the most gruelling challenges in UK sport is The Three Peaks Challenge.. Having become an event in the mid 1950′s, The Three Peaks Challenge is attempted by hill walkers, often for charity.

The Three Peaks Challenge is climbing 3 mountains in 24 hours. Ben Nevis, Scotland is the first mountain, after 1000ft tall it’s the toughest. This is made even tougher as it’s often done early in the morning. As such, nightwear is needed!. Following the climbdown, you hitch a ride south. This is where the race in 24 hours is won or lost, so it’s essential a driver, so you can sleep.

The reason why it’s won or lost here? If you hit traffic around the Lake District, England, you will be queuing. The second peak to scale is England’s tallest mountain, Scarfell’s Pike. This is the smallest mountain to climb, but it’s one of the hardest. The reason? Paths aren’t etched as easily as on the other two mountains, so it’s very easy to get lost. Upon completion, drive down the M6 motorway, to Wales.

The final peak to ascend is Snowdon, in Snowdonia. The second highest mountain in the challenge, Snowdon is the highest peak in Wales, and the last on your challenge. You should be climbing this in the early evening, as it takes about six hours to climb the mountain. However the challenge isn’t over until you descend the mountain and return to base camp.

If you do, before 24 hours after you started, then congratulations! You’ve completed the Three Peaks Challenge!

After such a climb like this, then you will want a few days off to recouperate and celebrate? There are plenty of Llanberis Hotels if you need time to recouperate!

You may worry if you are visiting London that you will end up spending a fortune; after all, London has a reputation for being one of the most expensive capital cities you can visit. However, with a spot of forward planning it is possible to find lots of things to do for free in London, where you can take in the atmosphere and culture without spending a single penny.

A great place to start is with some historic locations; Trafalgar Square, which was built in the 1830s and is home to Londons iconic Nelsons Column, is free to visit. Covent Garden is also nearby and although this area is famous for its shops and eateries there are also lots of street performers here you can watch for free. Performers at Covent Garden must be licensed and they have to audition to earn their spot so you can be sure youll be watching something that extra bit special.

A real London tradition is the Changing of the Guard ceremony held at Buckingham Palace. This takes place at 11.30 AM everyday during the summer time and every other day throughout the winter months. If you get yourself there early you may even be able to watch from the front row just outside the palace gates. The ceremony takes place inside the gates on the forecourt outside the palace.

The majority of Londons top art galleries and museums are free to enter, although some exhibitions within these locations have a charge most of the main areas are free to explore and make for good trip out on a rainy day. Galleries and Museums that are free to enter include, The Natural History Museum, The Science Museum, The V & A, The Horniman Museum, The RAF Museum, The Tate Modern and The Tate Britain, The National Gallery and The Saatchi Gallery.

London is also home to a number of parks and gardens that are free to visit. St James Park is the citys oldest Royal Park and is located near to Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square, during the summer time there are free concerts held here at the weekends. Regents Park has a number of themed gardens including the famous rose garden and Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, which are next to each other, feature the Diana Memorial Playground and the Peter Pan statue.

The inside of Westminster Abbey is also free to view if you have come to attend a regular service, although it relies on admission fees to cover costs if you just want to take a look around inside. Evensong is perhaps the most well known service when the Abbey choir sing; this takes place at 5pm Monday to Friday (excluding Wednesdays) and at 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The Lake District in the North of England remains a popular place for tourists to visit with thousands of people heading there every year to take part in outdoor pursuits or simply to enjoy the breathtaking scenery. The area is popular for many reasons including the diversity of the landscape, the opportunities for sport and quite simply the areas beauty and tranquility. There is a wide range and type of accommodation to choose from, from cosy B&Bs to plush hotels making the area a great place for a comfortable and fun-packed holiday.

So what is it about The Lake District that makes it so popular year in year out? The obvious attraction to begin with is the lakes themselves, which are dotted around the region and give the area a sense of open space and freedom. You can participate in a wide range of water sports on some of the lakes so if you enjoy canoeing or kayaking, rowing or sailing then this makes a great location to indulge your hobby. If gentler pursuits are more your style then you could simply pitch up next to one of the lakes and enjoy a picnic surrounded by beautiful scenery.

The fells are an obvious reason that people travel to the Lake District and the area is considered to be the birthplace of modern mountaineering. There is an extensive network of public footpaths and generally unrestricted access to the mountains and fells. The famous Wainwright walking guides plot the various recreational walks and certainly the areas beauty inspired the Romantic poets Wordsworth and Coleridge to put pen to paper.

A very popular reason for visiting the Lake District is to take part in outdoor recreational activities. The opportunities for indulging in your favorite sport are abundant and keen cyclists, mountain bikers, rock climbers and pot-holers, to name just a few, make their way here every year to enjoy a favorite activity whilst surrounded by stunning natural scenery. And after a hard day outdoors enjoying yourself there are plenty of cosy country pubs and eateries to try out and relax in with a few beers and some tasty home cooked food.

For those who enjoy art and culture there are various museums and art galleries in the Lakes area. Famously some of the Romantic poets spent time here and the Wordsworth Museum and Dove Cottage are a document to this literary past. Wordsworth reportedly wrote his poem I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud whilst staying at Dove Cottage, inspired by the beautiful natural scenery of the Lake District. Another popular museum, especially with children, is The World of Beatrix Potter which is a fun, interactive experience that both children and adults can enjoy.

Italy promises to have something for everyone, it boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world in the south whereas the north can offer the natural beauty of the Alps. With cities like Venice and Rome there is more history and more culture in this country than almost any country in the world. If you’re looking into villas in Italy you will have to know about the culture before you go. For example, car travel is very common in Italy but if you’re planning on renting a car you might want to make sure you’re prepared for the Italian style of driving which can intimidate the more timid driver. When planning out clothes you might want to bear in mind the south can be quite conservative so you should avoid walking around in skimpy clothing.

Like Italy Greece also has a rich and diverse history with the Gods of Olympus favouring these thousands of tiny islands. By deciding to rent villas in Greece rather than staying in a fancy hotel you’ll really get to experience the true culture of this country. By taking in a few of the many museums you’ll really be able to get a feel for the history of this beautiful country. The ruins of Olympia and the Temple of Zeus, which used to be one of the wonders of the world are truly breath taking. If your idea of a great holiday is simply relaxing on a golden beach you’re not going to have too much trouble finding this either as the hundreds if surrounding islands have plenty to offer.

If you’re looking for something a little more quaint and traditional you should look into cottages in Cornwall. You’re going to find just as much history and legend in this south west county of England as you are in Italy and Greece. Cornwall is said to be the birth place of the legendary King Arthur and this sleepy little corner of the UK is always very laid back. This stunning county also boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world let alone the UK, with hundreds of stunning golden beaches.

If you are considering travelling around Europe by train you might be interested in hearing the advantages and disadvantage of such a venture. Rail travel can be great fun but it is probably not for everyone. Below are some of the advantages and disadvantages of travelling in this way.

The Advantages of Travelling by Train.

Travelling by train is something that is still very popular despite the fact that we have been travelling this way for almost two hundred years and that there are many other ways to travel now. The following are some of the benefits of travelling by train.

- There tends to be a lot more space on a train than there is on a bus or a plane so it can be a very relaxing way to get from one place to another.

- Train travel allows you to get up and walk around.

- There are a lot of trains that have plenty of sleeping compartments which are very comfortable.

- When you travel by train, you get to see the surroundings during your journey; this is far better than travelling by plane when you don’t get to see much but the clouds.

- Train stations tend to be located right in the heart of the city whereas the airports for most cities will be quite a bit outside the city.

- It can be very cost effective to travel by train.

The Disadvantages Of Travelling By Train.

As well as the good things there is also the bad that comes with train travel. The following are some of the main drawbacks to travelling by train.

- It can take a lot longer to travel by train then it would take by airplane.

- It might be a bit hard to gain entry to some countries along the rail network when you are travelling to the other side of the world.

- Travelling by train is usually more expensive than it is to travel by bus.

- Nearly every area has a local bus that can take passengers from one place to another but not all locations are near to a train station.

Tickets for the Eurotunnel, London and England (billet londres) are vital for your trip to the UK (voyage en angleterre). As well as this, you want to be thinking about your English hotel stay (hotel angleterre).

Everybody knows that Britain is seperated from mainland Europe. However, many holidaymakers each year make the voyage across the English Channel to travel to the Continenet. Presently you’ll find numerous ways of undertaking this kind of trip, by car, train, ferry or coach, among them the Channel Tunnel, cross Channel ferries, the passenger trains from Eurostar and coaches.

The Channel Tunnel, which is often shortened to “Chunnel”, passes from Kent, direct to Calais, northern France. It is approximately 50 kilometres in total, and now provides a fast method to cross from England to Europe. Having said that, if you are taking a motor vehicle to Europe, it isn’t allowed to actually drive via the Chunnel. Instead instead you must travel on one of the big car trains at Folkestone, which will then bring you and your car through the Channel Tunnel in only 35 minutes. These kind of trains are operated by a company called Eurotunnel. But there are also passenger trains that operate via the Chunnel. These trains are operated by a seperate company called Eurostar. The principle service travels from central London to the centre of Paris. You can find additional services, such as trains from London to Brussels.

Taking a ferry is also a great choice for crossing the Channel. There are plenty of ferries running from the south coast of England. The ferries run by P&O ferries and Seafrance are probably the most popular. All these ferries operate between Dover and Calais and the crossing takes under 2 hours. Alternative ferry routes include Dover to Dunkirk and between Dover and Boulogne.

Taking the coach from UK to France is a cheap choice, but this can also be convenient for anybody travelling without a car. The coach company Eurolines are perhaps the most widely used coach service providers, and they have services from hundreds of places across Britain, which then travel across the English Channel by ferry, then traveling on to a number of locations across Europe. One of the benefits of traveling by coach is that you won’t have to arrange for a ferry ticket as everything is included in the price.

Lancashire is an historic county in the north west of England. Amongst its beautiful countryside lays the lively seaside town of Blackpool. Over six million tourists visit Blackpool every year, making it Britain’s busiest and liveliest tourist resort. Gambling fans may like to visit the Golden Mile a mile-long stretch of casino hotels set in the Las Vegas style. Other famous attractions include the Blackpool Illuminations in the fall and the Blackpool Tower and Pleasure Beach perhaps the two most famous landmarks in the town.

If you’re a fan of natural beauty, you’ll already know that Britain has hundreds of miles of beautiful rolling countryside on offer. The historic villages of Arnside and Silverdale, sat snugly on the coastline of Morecambe Bay, offer a range of woodlands, grasslands and salt marshes to explore and admire. Arnside has a number of gorgeous Victorian stores and traditional pubs where you can sample some English ales while looking out at the stunning scenery.

Pendle Hill, an isolated hill situated in the north east of Lancashire, is famous throughout America as the birthplace of the Quaker movement. It was here, in 1652, that George Fox claims to have been visited by God. Perhaps its most famous claim to fame, however, is through being the site of the Pendle witch trials a seventeenth century trial in which ten people were found guilty of the murder of ten others through witchcraft.

Hoghton Tower, just east of Preston, is said to be the location where ‘sirloin’ steak was so named following a visit from King James I in 1617. The King was said to be so impressed with the meat he was served, he actually knighted it ‘Sir Loin’. Whether or not that fancy tale is true, Hoghton is rich with history. Built in the 12th century, Hoghton has played host to the De Hoghton family ever since. Many visiting royals and nobles have passed through the doors but the story of King James I’s visit almost left more than a passing impression on Hoghton.

If you love the great outdoors, 312 square miles designated as an Area of Outstanding Beauty may just appeal. The Forest of Bowland is a nationally protected landscape which simply cannot be replicated elsewhere. It is home to a number of rare birds and plant species and is almost unchanged since the late medieval period. 16th and 17th century stone buildings are dotted across the landscape which forms part of the Pennine hills. Whether you’re into loud and lively Blackpool or the peaceful, historic and serene Forest of Bowland, Lancashire has something for everyone.
