Manchester Airport is one of the main British airports. It is located at Ringway, in the City of Manchester. It is the fourth busiest UK airport in terms of the number of passengers that go through the doors. Manchester Airport jobs are popular among people who live in the vicinity. Typical jobs range from passenger support staff to check in desk officials and security guards. Most of the employees live in the city.

The terminals are located 8.6 miles, or 13.9 km, south west of the Manchester city centre. Manchester Airport opened on the 25th of June 1938. It was originally called Ringway Airport and during World War II it was named RAF Ringway. From 1975 till 1986 it was officially known as Manchester International Airport.

The Manchester Airport is run and owned by the Manchester Airports Group, or MAG. MAG is owned by Greater Manchester’s councils, but Manchester City Council owns the largest stake. MAG is the largest UK owned airport group.

The airport operates two parallel runways, 3 terminals and a ground transport interchange complete with railway station. It is one of the only airports in the world to be granted a Cat 10 rating, allowing them to handle ‘Code F’ (very big) aircraft. Manchester is one of the best airports to fly to if you are visiting the noth of England, as Heathrow and Gatwick are better for visitors going to London or the South.

At the time of writing this article, the airport is one of only 17 airports in the world to host the world’s biggest passenger airliner, the Airbus A380. At the Manchester Runway Visitor Park you can see one of the Concorde’s that used to fly to and from the airport.

Awards won by the airport include World’s Best Airport 1995 and Travel Weekly Globe Awards’ UK Best Airport 2008.

The US company American Airlines has now started a new service to JFK, New York, from Manchester Airport. The service first ran on May 16th and will continue until September 30th, 2010.

Running up to (and including) 7 times a week, it gives passengers around the Manchester area a perfect solution for breaks in America, going to one of the most popular destinations in the World. Whereas many people might see other destinations in America as more suitable for family holidays (Florida in particular), New York is an ideal destination for younger people who are looking for a cosmopolitan, busy holiday centred around shopping and superb night life. It’s not called the City that never sleeps for no reason!

Should you want to take advantage of the new summer service, flights will cost you around £530 for a non-stop flight, although if you’re happy to make a connecting flight you’ll be able to get it for between £50-100 cheaper. You should remember however that you’ll probably also need to consider the cost of travel insurance and parking while you’re away, although the Manchester airport parking facilities are good and not overly expensive.

If you’re trying to cut down the price of your flights, have a look at last minute deals online, as you can usually save yourself some money on your tickets. As far as airport parking goes, try and spend a decent amount of time searching on the internet. Be sure to search for the airport you’re after and click on more than just the first one or two links, have a proper look around as it gives you a greater chance of finding a suitable deal. You should find you come across lots of companies offering to supply you with airport parking, which should allow you to note down and compare all the quote and save yourself some money.

You should also try and save money on exchanging your currency, try and avoid the airport for exchanging currency just because it’s easy and convenient. Keep hold of your pounds or dollars and properly shop around, you’re almost guaranteed to find a better deal in an alternative place if you’re willing to spend the time having a look around. Some places will even allow you to exchange currency with no comission whatsoever, although you may have to prove you’re a member. Banks and The Post Office are good places for this, but you may have to demonstrate that you have an account with them.

Birmingham Airport Car Park

Many people use short stay airport parking for many different purposes, one purpose is when they go to receive someone at the airport. Birmingham airport parking has one of the most expensive short stay parking in the UK. Recent research shows that the newly opened short stay parking in Birmingham is expensive than Manchester and Heathrow even though Heathrow is one of the busiest airport. So why is Birmingham short stay parking expensive?? I bet it wants to be one of the most expensive short stay parking of the World?

Cost comparison between Heathrow, Manchester and Birmingham airport parking.

To park in a short stay Heathrow airport parking will cost you £8 for 30 mins.

To park in a short stay Manchester airport parking will cost you £8 for 30 mins.

To park in a short stay Birmingham airport it will cost you 20 pounds for 40 minutes. First half an hour costs £10 and thereafter the car park charges £5 for every 5 minutes. This is a total rip off. Just imagine the situation of you receiving someone from Birmingham airport and their plane is delayed by 60 minutes. When you calculate that it will come upto 70 pounds in total WOW!. I rather spend that 70 pounds in something productive – like a buy a cheap return ticket to Venice for a romantic weekend. No wonder this car park is always empty these days as shown in the video in the post – noone wants to pay that much.

The airport parking facility should be cheaper than this and also friendly for their customers(money wise). People use the short stay parking to either drop or receive their friends and family. Just imagine a person receiving his/her parents in this airport whom he/she hasn’t seen for years. These moment of happiness can be taken off his/her face which was there after meeting the parents when they go to pay for the car park when they will have to pay £30 for half an hour of parking.
