The allure of safari is something which we’ve all felt since we were very small, but is it dangerous? No, we’re not talking about Internet safety (though browsing on a Mac certainly has its own set of mortal dangers). Travelling on safari holidays gets you the most intimate experience with Africa’s most spectacular species possible. This is a completely different proposition than the tame beasts behind the glass at your local zoo. People have been hurt or even killed on safari in the past, and accidents will continue to happen. However, these tragic incidents are rarely down to random chance: mistakes were made.

It can be frustrating to go all the way out to kruger national park only to conceal yourself in a van. But this is the price of admission for safari, or at least those types that let your see the so called ‘ big five’. If you’re travelling inside a car, you’re travelling inside a car for good reason. Remain in the vehicle at all times, until your trained guide tells you to leave (to get to a hide or other observation post). The catastrophic lapse in judgement it takes to leave a car for a better look at a natural killing machine is often behind the worst safari disasters. You will drive slowly and keep your windows up in such vehicles. However, not all Safari requires you to drive around like you’re in a warzone, so don’t be alarmed if you’re in an open topped vehicle or even on foot. Always stay within the vehicle. This advice extends to not waving, standing up or making poacher like actions in the vicinity of animals.

When you’re on foot, you will be briefed by your guide. Safari guides understand well the moods of the animals you encounter. Guides can tell you even quite subtle details about the mood, and will know whether a charging elephant is after blood or just moving you along. The single most important thing to remember for your South Africa holidays is simply that animals, especially large ones, deserve respect and distance.

Many people feel that fireworks are only around in the later parts of the year around November time and of course around Christmas and New Year but this are not true and there are things that you need to make sure you are doing or not doing around the fireworks to ensure that everyone is safe.

The first point to make is that you should only be buying certified fireworks, the illegal ones are not only dangerous but you will be fined or worse if you are caught with them. There is a number that should be on all British fireworks and it is BS 7114, if this isn’t there then they are illegal. Make sure that you are reading the instructions for each and every firework. Do not make the mistake of reading the firework by naked flame as this may cause it to explode in your face.

The best thing to have is a bucket of earth to put the rockets in as this is a safe way to let them off. If you are the one that is lighting the fireworks then I would always suggest that you wear eye protection.

It is important to note that it is illegal to set fireworks off between 11pm and 7am unless there are certain celebrations going on at the time, obviously you cannot set them off on public too. Imprisonment can actually occur in the worse case if you do this. Bonfire night is one of those exceptions with midnight and New Year is 1am.

You are also not allowed to keep fireworks on you in your pocket or throw them. You should never throw used fireworks on a bonfire because it could still cause them to explode on you.

Make sure that you know the rules, regulations and safety advice before you go out and buy firework wheels and of course firework selection boxes and fireworks

Theft Report from LAX

In these days of budget travel most of us think that the most important consideration when selecting an airline is the price of their tickets. While this is, without doubt, the top of most priority lists there are many other factors to bear in mind.

But prices are the most important consideration for most travelers. But the cheapest flight may not mean the cheapest journey. If you have to travel some distance to the airport this will add to your travel costs. And if you then need to travel some distance from your arrival airport to your final destination this will add significantly to the overall cost.

Also, check to be sure of what is included in your ticket price and, importantly, what is excluded. You may need to add the cost of refreshments to your ticket price if food and drink are excluded.

Its worth looking at how flexible your airline is with regard to departure dates and times? Weekend flights are always more expensive so being able to travel mid week can provide significant savings. Find out if your airline offers cheaper weekday tickets.

Its also a good idea to find out how good an airlines timekeeping is with regard to departures and arrivals. Statistics are available for most airlines so check to find out how good they are at sticking to their timetable. Although an airline may offer cheap tickets they may have very poor timekeeping statistics.

Another aspect of your proposed airline that would bear investigation is their lost luggage statistics. Do they lose more luggage than other airlines? Losing your luggage would be very costly so it may be worth choosing a more reliable airline.

And something else to look into is whether your airline routinely over-books their flights. This is becoming increasingly problematic. Passengers turn up for their booked flights, in good faith, only to find their flight over-booked and no seats are left.

It should be clear that to choose the best airline takes time and research. The earlier you start and the more you can find out the better informed you will be when it comes to making your choice.

If you drive to the airport you can save some serious money by booking your Manchester airport parking, Gatwick Parking or Heathrow Parking as far in advance as possible.

Trampoline Safety Video

Before purchasing a trampoline there are various things you are concerned about. There is one thing that comes to your concern before getting a trampoline and that is the safety of the trampolines. Most people wonder if trampolines are dangerous for their children and the second thing they think about is the size of the trampolines. What size trampoline should I buy?

Trampoline accidents

The safety of the trampolines seems have to improved from 2002 to 2009. In 2002 there was 11,500 hospital visits due to trampoline accidents and in 2009 it has significantly cut down to 3,000. And the UK trampoline manufacturers are even looking to decrease these accidents to the minimum. The research also shows that most of these accidents have occured at home other than the gym or sports hall.

When buying a trampoline, what should you look for?

Always buy a trampoline which has safety nets and pads, which completely covers the frames, springs and hooks. Most trampoline accidents occur on children because they do not have the strenght to balance and control the jumps on the trampolines hance the result will be landing on rough surfaces. The safety pads should protect your children unexpected and uncontrolled falls.

Where should you put the trampoline?

To be honest there various sizes of trampolines you can buy from your trampoline stores depending on the size of your garden. There are – 8ft trampolines to 14ft trampolines you can choose from. If you do not have a garden as you might live in a flat then you may want to go for mini trampolines or rebounders. Rebounders are used for exercise and fitness programs and on top of that you will be able to use this in your garage or your room. You will also be able to take it away with you when you are going on a holiday so you can still carry on with your exercise regime.

Children and trampoline definitely is a risky combination but to be honest if you keep an eye on your children while using the trampolines, a lot of accidents which occur can be stopped.

If you are thinking about renting out your holiday home then you need to make sure the area is safe for other people to stay in. Although insurance for holiday homes will cover you against everything it is best to have safety precautions in place to avoid even having an accident.

Pool Safety

Safety around the pool is one of the first things you need to look into. The pool area is nearly always slippery this means people fall over very easily indeeed. If you are in the process of building the Villa or house at the moment make sure tiles are installed around the pool that are not slippery when stepped on. Gravel tiles do not tend to be that friendly on the feet but it is surely better than falling over and causing really bad injuries.

To make sure that any kids guests may take with them are safe then it is best that put up a pool fence around the pool. One of the best things about these is that they can be taken away if kids are not there.

Carbon Monoxide

This has proven to be one of the msot dangerous gases to human kind simply because there is no way to tell that it is in the home without a sensor. Even in its lowest form this gas can cause very bad long term problems and can in its highest concentration can cause death in 30 seconds. To be safe it is best to pick up a meter that can pick the gas up.

Anything Else

On top of these comes the obvious ones, just check around the place making sure that everything looks safe. Overseas property insurance will help you out but it will not prevent death from occurring. If it is a cottage you own then look into holiday cottages insurance.

Gordon Brown Promises Full Body Scanners in UK Airports- Backup Video

Privacy campaigners in the United Kingdom are claiming that the images created by new full body scanners, currently under trial at Manchester airport, are so graphic that they are really a form of virtual strip search.

UK child protection laws ban the creation of indecent images of children and it is looking like under 18s will be exempt from the scans. Civil liberties groups have called for stringent safeguards that will ensure that images derived from the new system will not be published on the internet or distributed.

A 12 month trial of the new body scanning system was commenced at Manchester airport at the beginning of January 2010. The trial only went ahead after under 18s were exempted from the security check.

Similar systems are in use in the United States where images are required to be deleted immediately. Concerns have been raised that security staff would not be able to resist sharing scanned images of celebrities or those with unusual physical profiles.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) have said that there are justified concerns regarding an individual’s right to privacy and the images produced by the new scanning systems. In response to these fears the UK Department of Transport has said that they were developing a staff code of practice for those using the new body scanning technology.

There is currently a rush to introduce the new security technology at British airports due to the apparent attempt to blow up an American aircraft on December 25th by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. Some have said that there is only a 50 to 60% chance that the new scanner technology would have detected the device carried by this alleged terrorist.

The proposed introduction of new body scanning technology has raised concerns regarding privacy and civil liberties.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

When flying from a Scottish airport be certain to save on Edinburgh airport parking, Glasgow airport parking and Aberdeen airport parking by booking in advance.
