If you have a house with a large garden then you will quite possibly have thought about the recreational uses you could make of it. You might be thinking about building yourself some tennis courts or maybe even sinking a swimming pool.

If you are fortunate enough to have your own swimming pool already then equipment like swimming pool heaters, swimming pool filters, and pool covers will all be perfectly familiar to you. I find that what with scooping leaves and frogs out of the water, scrubbing the sides of the pool in the colder months, tinkering with filtration systems, heaters and pumps I spend more time looking after my pool than I ever do in it!

It shouldn’t be long before I am qualified to take my hydro-mechanical examinations, I’ve spent so long tinkering with puttering pumps and fulminating filters. That’s not to say I don’t love it, if I wasn’t spending hours every week in the pump house I’d have to find something else to do. Some people fix up with their cars, some have mid life crises and buy motorcycles and I choose to get ‘wet n’ wild’ in winter, in a shed in Sussex! But of course there is a payoff, it would be pointless otherwise, our pool is in a lovely garden, we have our friends over for barbecues or dinner parties, afterward we can go for a swim or a paddle in the shallow end. These days it’s quite the thing to have a hot tub out on the decking in your garden but if you can turn the heating up on a summers’ night it knocks your out door Jacuzzi into a crooked hat!

That’s my take on it anyway, we’ve found it terribly useful, we’ve taught children to swim, how to canoe, life saving and snorkelling, many things that should be terribly handy skills to have later in life.

Swimming is one of the best exercises that improves fitness and also tones your body. People of any age can do the aquatics exercise in swimming pools, as for gym exercises children under 16 won’t be allowed in, swimming is one exercise where there is no age barrier.

There are plenty of exercises, that can be done in a swimming pool to work different parts of your body such as abdominal, arms, legs, shoulders, back and others. To do this exercise as the gym, you will probably have to hit different machines and will have to work very hard. In swimming you can achieve working those muscles and also cardio by just one stroke.

But if you are a first timer or have come back after lengthy time off then you shouldn’t over do it at the swimming pool or the gym as overdoing can cause some serious damage to your body/health. Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise for people of all age.

Many different exercises can be used in swimming, not only exercise aquatic therapy for people who have asthma, cardiac rehabilitation, joint replacement, stress reduction, diabetes, broken bones, spinal injuries, weight management and constant pain of muscles and joints.

Whereas just to clear things up, aquatic therapy and aquatic exercise are two different types of fitness regime. Aquatic or water therapy focuses on body stress management, whereas exercise is done by people in good health to tone their body or endurance.

This should give you an idea on what kind of exercise to do in a swimming pool, if it is to lose weight, body healing or edurance.

This all can be done within your own home these days. Swimming pools these days are being built for investment. Also do keep in mind that there are swimming pool equipments and swimming pool chemicals to keep up the costs for maintaining your swimming pool and they will be around as long as you own your pool.

Swimming Pool Maintenance Tips

To keep your swimming pool maintained throughout the year, you require good swimming pool equipments and also clean your pool every 3 to 4 week, this will make sure that your pool is ready to use with spring is here. Its always good to swim in crystal clear water.

There are other equipments you will require to maintain the swimming pool, for example; swimming pool heater, swimming pool chemicals, swimming pool filters and swimming pool cover.

Manufacturers such as Certikin, Intex and The Laars Jandy provide different swimming pool equipments; doing some research on these companies could give you an idea of which equipments are reliable, long lasting and good for your pool.

The above gives you examples of how you should maintain your swimming pools. Now let’s talk about swimming pool safety.

Swimming pool safety is equally important as maintenance; it doesn’t matter if you swim like a fish to swim it is very important to have safety equipment installed within the pool area.

Especially if there are children in the household, it is always a good idea to have life jackets and ring buoys next to the pool. Make sure you get the life jackets and buoys approved.

The first aid kit completes the swimming pool safety device. They should be constantly replenished. If any first aid kit product has expired then it should be removed and replaced immediately.

After all these information and equipments you are ready to have your own pool. Just do not forget to clean the pipe every month, because it might get dirty and you will not get clean water on to the pool, also over the winter the pipe frozes so you will need to heat the pipe up with swimming pool heater, but don’t heat one spot of the pipe for too long as it might damage the pipe.

Enjoy swimming.
