Whereas Ireland’s financial repute might have received a severe set back back, its popularity as a tourist spot spot seems to not have been hit as hard. Dedicated readers of Frommer’s travel guides voted the country into first place as the best vacationer vacation spot for the upcoming year.

Ireland has knocked Paris, France off the highest spot and has been described by the resource as a very vacationer-friendly nation. Tourists enjoy the surroundings and the folks together with great bars and taverns, historic castles, lush landscapes, and is sufficiently small to discover via car or bicycle.

The guide’s Irish high points include sailing across the the country’s west coast, horseback riding, and consuming a hot whiskey in on of Ireland’s famous pubs. It also recommends the Slieve Blooms, Newgrange,Cahir Castle, Powerscourt Gardens, Glendalough, the Dublin Writers’ Museum, kayaking in west Cork, biking via Cork and Kerry and kissing the Blarney Stone.

Ireland’s vacationer attitudes survey is also hopeful positive news. Preliminary findings indicate 57 per cent of tourists surveyed this year stated Ireland supplied good all-round value for the dough, in contrast with 47 per cent the previous year, an indication the price cut backs of recent years are hitting home.

Online dialogue about the real value for the money when visiting Ireland helps this view.

A poster on a Frommer’s forum asked if the Irish financial crisis and the poor exchange rate of the United States dollar to the euro meant that 2011 will be a great time to visit Ireland. He was told it was an excellent time, with good offers on inclusive escorted bus excursions and bargains on automobile hire.

Another optimistic development was a new summer flight service between Charlotte, NC and Dublin which should be able to begin in May. The prediction is that the United states economy would go back to growth in 2011 and will probably be helped with the Irish department of tourism kicking off a significant advertising drive there.

Consumer confidence and vacation sentiment in Ireland is on the upswing, with research showing there is a great demand for travel representing a real opportunity for the country of Ireland.

The company is focusing on the U.k. market with a tv marketing campaign in March and a yr-long marketing campaigns on social media, online and the radio. The “How Irish Are You?” marketing campaign will even be run to coincide with the upcoming UK census, which will permit individuals to citizenship in both countries.

The reduction of the 10 euros flight travel tax to three euros has also been welcomed by the industry.

As well as travelling to the the U.K., U.S. and Ireland, the author Tyler Burke has fun playing bingo at the top online bingo halls including Bingo Gala one the best sites for bingo players from the US, UK and Canada.

Looking to make the most of a trip round the UK in the very near future? Here are five destinations that are worth thinking about if you’re planning a vacation in the near future.

London

It’s best to spare a couple of days to get the most from a trip to London, as there’s something of interest at every turn in this amazing city. From the magnificence of Buckingham Palace and St Paul’s Cathedral to the energy of the West End and Oxford Street, it’s best to avoid the many tour buses and explore this city by foot to enjoy a truly memorable walk.

The Lake District

If the idea of joining the masses in London doesn’t appeal, you could always enjoy a rural escape on a walking holiday through the Lake District. This enchanting region is rich with enchanting landscapes, including the heights of Scarfell Pike and the breathtaking natural beauty of Lake Windemere. On any trip to the Lake District, it’s worth sacrificing a lie-in to catch the sun rise over the Fells before enjoying a hearty breakfast.

Cornwall

The trip to Cornwall can be a long one, but it will be a worthy investment of your time. On a coastal tour of the Cornish Riviera, you’ll come across a number of engaging towns and villages, with many holidaymakers heading to the likes of Looe, Polperro and Fowey. Leading tourist sites include the Eden Project and Land’s End.

Scottish Highlands

The rugged terrain of the Scottish Highlands certainly provides numerous outstanding photo opportunities. And if you opt to holiday in this region at the right time of year, you can even try your hand at skiing and snowboarding. And if the temperature starts to dip, you can always warm up with a wee dram of whisky on a tour of one of this region’s many distilleries.

Brighton and Hove

Finally, for a touch of good old fashioned English seaside cheer, the city of Brighton and Hove is one of the most popular in the UK when it comes to day trips. Over 7 million people visit this city on a day trip annually, attracted by its mix of family attractions (Brighton Pier, the Pavilion, The Lanes) and vibrant nightlife (a perennial favourite for stag nights, hen nights and general clubbing). It’s virtually impossible for boredom on a day trip to this vibrant South Coast city.

June Strikes By British Airways Staff Blamed For Reduction In Passenger Figures For BAA

The number of passengers using BAA airports fell dramatically throughout late June and early July, with the British Airway strikes in June apparantly causing the drop in numbers. According to BAA, passenger numbers dropped by 1.7% in its airports over the last month (compared to the same period last year).

Although British Airways is denying that the strikes are entirely to blame, BAA have stated that if it wasn’t for the strike they’d have expected numbers to at least match last years.

British Airways staff (mainly cabin crew) were on strike for 9 days in June, and have so far taken 22 days off on strike since the new year started. BA claimed the amount of people it carried last month was down 11% due to the strikes, although it still had over 2.5 million customers.

BAA currently runs and operates six major UK airports, as it sold Gatwick in 2009 for a reported £1.5bn. BAA now operates Stansted, Heathrow, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Southampton and Aberdeen airports.

It’s really tough to tell how much the BA strikes have affected the BAA passenger numbers. Glasgow airport, who do see BA flights, saw a 7% decline in passengers from last year, although Stansted airport, which doesn’t have any BA flights, saw a 5.2% reduction from last year.

Perhaps BAA needs to do a better job with its airports, rather than simply blaming British Airways for their own internal strikes. Take Manchester Airport for example, they focus heavily on customer service, staff happiness and a high level of retail and functional facilities. They have seen a steady increase in business, passengers and critical acclaim over the last couple of year, and it’s almost certainly not a coincidence that their airport lounges & airport hotels are very highly thought of and rated, as are the staff and the Manchester Airport parking facilities are some of the best in the country.

With millions of residents packed into this vibrant cultural melting pot, London is always bustling with activity, regardless of the day of the week or the month. You should make a list of sights to take in, as otherwise you might end up missing out on one of London’s highlights.

The Tower of London, the Houses Of Parliament, and Westminster Abbey are all not to be missed. You can take guided tours of each of these, so you can learn about their colorful histories, which will give you an even better appreciation of what stands before you. Also, be sure to find time for the House of Lords, the House of Commons, and the accompanying clock tower. Locals sometimes call it St. Stephens Tower just to make a point. Everyone else affectionately calls it Big Ben.

There are various palaces and historical buildings spread around the city. The Queen of England lives in the most famous of all them, which is called Buckingham Palace. Outside of Buckingham Palace you will see the famous guards clad in their red and black uniforms. You can take your picture with them, and even watch them run through some drills, which is a truly memorable sight to behold .

There is a great transportation system in London, so you can easily and safely travel to all the sights that you want to. Taxis (or black cabs as they are called in London) are plentiful, or you might want to try riding on one of the famous red double-decker buses. Next time you see a double-decker in a photo, you can say, “I did that”. Also, spend some time getting out and about on the underground train system.

Bristol, the premier city for the South West of England, serves as the entrance to some of the country’s most scenic locations. Having the fifth largest population in England, as well as a rich and colorful history, it has recently transformed into a modern, vibrant European city packed with attractions to suit every kind of visitor .

The original town was 10th century trading port and the city’s maritime heritage is highlighted by the achievements of Bristol’s most famous son, the great Victorian inventor Kingdom Brunel. He was responsible for the SS Great Britain, which became the first iron-hulled, propeller-driven ship to pass between the UK and America and, of course, the world famous Clifton Suspension Bridge, which offers breathtaking views over Bristol.

One of the most important changes to Bristol over recent years has been the transformation of the city’s harborside from a bustling commercial dock to an attractive development filled with restaurants, bars, shops and a range of hotels to suit every visitors pocket. Attractions to look out for include The Hippodrome, Explore-At-Bristol, and Bristol City Football Club. Jumping on a ferry is an ideal way to see the area from a different perspective, with stops at key points along the waters’ edge.

For the dedicated shopaholic, the new Cabot Circus shopping complex has propelled Bristol into the top 10 list of UK shopping destinations. With over 100 new shops, including major flagship stores, restaurants, cafes and delis, and a state-of-the-art 13-screen cinema, this impressive site guarantees that shoppers will not leave Bristol disappointed.

Walk a short distance from the central shopping areas and you will find yourself surrounded by the enchanting old buildings and relics of the past in Bristol’s original Old City. The cobbled streets of Corn Street, Broad Street, King Street and St Nicholas Market remain much the same today as they were hundreds of years ago. Do not miss the majestic Corn Exchange or the quirky old Llandoger Trow pub on King Street.

—

Cheap Hotel Chains price compares all latest cheap hotel deals across the world, ensuring you find the very best deal for your chosen hotel and destination. This month we are running a feature on Bristol, England’s gateway to the South West. We currently have 144 cheap hotels in Bristol featured on our website.
